Dairies in Cali are seeing a big increase in demand.
But if you want to stay on top of the latest news and best practices in your favorite California dairy farms, be sure to check out the latest Dairy Farmers of America and the California Dairy Industry Association’s 2018 Annual Report.
In 2018, the state saw more than 9.6 million dairy cows, up from 5.4 million in 2017.
While this may seem like a large number, it’s not.
It represents just 0.3 percent of the state’s dairy herd, according to the USDA.
The average cow in the state produced 8.2 pounds of milk in 2018, a record low.
That is good news for dairy farmers who have been working to increase the number of cows they have in the future.
